About

So whats The Longest Friday all about anyway? Its about riding the world in the pursuit of adventure in the effort to reach out and experience my concept of living life to the fullest. It’s an escape from the opiates and trappings of day to day life. It’s an abandonment of social reasoning in favor of turning a dream into reality.

Some times old dreams die hard…. or they don’t die at all but become an obsession. A man smarter than I once said that “thought is born of failure”. Seven years ago I failed to top out on a crack climb up boulder canyon, resulting in fracturing both ankles and my back. When recovering from an accident of that magnitude there is plenty of time to reflect on life and what’s important. To break up the monotony of regrowing bone and ligaments, my folks would take me out to various places. Various places like BMW motorcycle dealership of Pomona. As I rolled between the bikes in a wheel chair, my father pointed out the R1150GS Adventure. The seeds were sown in that BMW shop seven years ago.

So here I am sitting up against an oak tree off some dirt track deep in the forest….. somewhere in Alabama. I’m thrilled to be dry and warm after 3 days of cold rain, fog and gloomy skies. I’ve got my bedroll out under the open sky tonight. My tent is hanging upside down still dripping from the last two nights of steady down pour. The night sky shines brilliantly through the branches overhead distracting me from typing out this entry on my laptop. Coyotes are closing in on a kill, they howl and yelp, a little close for comfort… kinda creepy actually… but that’s part of camping.

I don’t really have a solid route. I’d like to say I planned it that way to ensure freedom of the road. However the fact is I ran out of time. I quickly realized that I could spend the rest of my life planning this tremendous project, but at some point I just had to go. After three months of intense preparation, I knew it was time. I wanted it to be a Friday, because Friday’s are lucky, and as far as I’m concerned every day of this tour will be another Friday. And maybe I’ll call this project The Longest Friday. I left on a Friday and it will forever be Friday until tour comes to a close.

Here’s a look at the tentative schedule which is apt to change……a lot!
