Journal → Biker Down
1st off, thanks guys for all your comments and words of support. Even if I had lost everything, I’d at least find solace in having made so many friends along the way.
The only thing worse than wrecking your bike, is wrecking your bike and your body. To say it’s a low point in the tour is an understatement, but the show’s not over…and that’s my saving grace. Broken bones heal, bike parts will be replaced and that throaty growl from the Remus pipe will once again ring along those dusty back roads.
Just got released from the hospital and I’m holed up with my buddy Ian in Brisbane. So I’ve got a bit of ride report to catch up on,..but with one operable hand its gonna take some time. However, laid up as I am,,..I’ve got time.. so will post soon.

Shaun told me about the mishap a few weeks ago. Get better soon. That bike isn’t gonna ride itself.

Whoa, hey Chris! Sorry to hear about the accident, but please to hear that you’ll heal. And heal quickly, my friend. As I may have mentioned before, I had a buddy from CA who was in Australia for over 6 months and has recently returned. He made many friends there during that time and that includes in and around Brisbane. If you need anything, please let me know and we’ll try to hook you up with someone local… but it sounds like you’re all taken care of. Just the same, let me know if there’s anything at all. Getting rear ended on a motorcycle has happened to a few of my friends and I’m certain it’s no fun. That’s one thing a rider has little or no control over. At the mercy of strangers in that case. Heal fast! Brian

Chris,
You may not remember, but my two buddies and I met you at a gas station just outside La Paz, Mexico on your trip south, then bumped into you a couple of times while in La Paz. Well, we’ve been following your adventure and were shocked to learn of your accident. You have our best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery and safe remainder of your grand adventure. We look forward to seeing what crazy thing you get into next.
I really loved your section on Bolivia, your pics of the stark countryside and frigid riding conditions were great. Loved the Butch and Sundance photo! Way to show some style.
Take care and heal up soon so we can go back to living vicariously through your adventures.

Hey Chris, Sorry to hear of your setback. I knew there was a reason to give you a head start. I am back to Buenos Aires on 7 December and should be in Australia 10 Jan. Bike shipping tips much appreciated. I’ll also need a rental bike for a month in Austraila for me if I can trust my son on the Big Katoom. Hope to see you on the road in 2010. Be safe. Cheers Randy

Hey man, I know this is late in coming but sorry to hear about the accident. Odd thing is several of my friends have been in some kind of car accident lately. Hey isn’t that your dad in the pic? I do recognize him, hes not as tall as I remember!

Chris,
We just heard about your accident. Is this an elaborate way to get a new bike and replenish your funds? Getting rear ended by a commericial vehicle is a slam dunk in the USA. Don’t know about down under. Jezze!! A tractor blade? Yikes. Que lastima.
I hope you get a generous settlement and resume your adventure soon. You earned it the hard way.
Godspeed!
